A Christmas Holiday Diary

New Years Day

New Years Day starts with a sparkle.

Peace and quiet, the boys are back at school.  That was a hectic couple of weeks.  I can look back calmly now and see all the lovely things we did, it’s difficult to focus and enjoy the moments when everything is in full swing.  We managed to get another couple of days out in the snow.  I have been slightly hindered with an injured knee, which means the boys are now more capable of walking further and for longer than I am. We enjoyed a picnic in the snow at New Lount nature reserve, a local reserve to us.  Then a day walking and pub visiting in Makeney and Holbrook, two of the best pubs around in our opinion.
We celebrated new year with a mini Mexican feast, complete with the eating of 12 grapes, one each for the chime of the clock at midnight, although we did this at 6pm using a recording of Big Ben 🙂 There was also the wearing of red pants to bring good luck!

We had a fun day in the woods at Allestree Park in Derby with our friend, who coincidentally seems equally capable of getting lost as I do, I see this friendship is a long lasting one 🙂

It was also my birthday at the end of the holidays.  We had a lovely lunch out at Loch Fyne in Nottingham.  We will not mention the firing of lobsters claws at customers…
