World Book Day – Jack and the Beanstalk on a budget
The Fireman wished to dress up as Jack and the Beanstalk for today’s World Book Day at school. There are some brilliant dressing up costumes available to buy, but I know from experience my boys find them exciting for one day then have no interest in dressing up again, so that’s £15 wasted. So we designed and made a homemade costume, that whilst is unlikely to last for that long, it cost about £3. So here’s what we made.
Some random t-shirt material from a long ago fancy dress, cut into a tabard and tied with some rope. We also write ‘Jack’ on the front to be absolutely clear what he was dressing up as 🙂
One pair of thick brown tights, legs cut off and stuffed with paper. Two sheets of green card cut into leaf and beanpod shapes and stapled in place, along with some green pipe cleaners twisted to make tendrils.
He was keen to take magic beans, edible jelly bean, magic beans to share with his class. He also requested a castle on his head, I was impressed with his ideas. We used a cereal box cut and stapled inside out with castle like doodles drawn on it.
Finally he filled a little sack of coins and placed them ‘in the castle’ (on his head) as the final touch. He was super excited to dress up today! I hope everyone else enjoys their world book day!
