Pottery Beach is Open!

So it’s seems we’re in the middle of a heatwave, so where better to go than the beach.  With Derby not being well known as a seaside resort, we headed to Denby Pottery to have a play at Pottery Beach.  We went a couple of times last year and a lovely morning or afternoon out.  We made it into a morning out before the day got too hot. It’s open from 10am-4pm every day until 8th September and is completely free.  Again we took a picnic lunch which we ate at 10:30!! I can’t complain I was so hungry.

There’s food and drink kiosk right next to the beach, so we had ice cream treats.  The boys were treated to pirate flags and a new spade for The Farmer at the beach shop, I was treated to a new milk jug from the cookshop.  I could spend hours looking around the cookshop, but it’s not so relaxing with two little ones swinging buckets and spades around, a quick trip and 10% discount will have to suffice for now. By just after 11am it was getting very hot and quite busy, even though the deckchairs were extremely comfortable, we moved over to the playground just behind the beach.  This is an ideal space due to the sheltered picnic benches along the back, giving a bit of relief from the sunshine. If you’re in the area, a trip here is a must for the pure novelty of a beach near Derby, but be sure to remember your suncream and knotted hankies
